FERRY TERMINAL, OSLO, NORWAY (URBANISM)
SPRING 2008, OSLO SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN (AHO)
the task was basically to create a new ferry terminal and to come up with an idea for the surrounding area.

"you only get one chance to make a first impression" read the title of an article in aftenposten (14.05.2008). it described the way visitors are met, arriving in oslo: construction sites, pollution, containers and social problems. while our capital is still waiting for what other capitals has already got, summer is just around the corner and tourists are, once again, knocking on the door.

process and a modernist approach.

project description in my project there are (among others) two main elements: the terminal and a promenade:

the terminal takes a modernistic approach. in order to maintain a high level of efficiency it is clearly functionally divided where the heavy logistic needs of the ferry terminal is not to interfere with public use.

as for the promenade, the aim is to connect several cultural institutions with aker brygge in one end and the opera house in the other. the waterfront is returned to the public, creating an accessible and welcoming athmosphere as well as aiming to change and strengthen the cultural and visual qualities of the area.

the project also contained elements such as public transport and various constructions.
